That spoiler is nearly 3,000 years old, so Christopher Nolan’s challenge was never what happens, but how to make the journey unforgettable on screen. His answer? Go big. Shot entirely on IMAX cameras, with a reported $250 million budget and a cast led by Matt Damon, Nolan’s epic gives one of literature’s greatest adventures the full big-screen treatment.Nolan adds a fresh psychological dimension to Odysseus’ journey, and the episodic storytelling gives the film the feel of a true odyssey. Audiences showed up, proving there’s still a huge appetite for bold, truly epic filmmaking. Now it’s heading home. You might not have an IMAX screen in your lounge room, but you can still get close to the scale, detail, and sheer impact Nolan intended. Great home entertainment like The Odyssey puts you inside the story, close enough to feel every clash of steel and crash of the sea.Odysseus took ten years to get home. You can make the journey in three hours from the comfort of your own home. Our advice? Put the phone away, dim the lights, turn it up, and let the voyage begin. • ”On The Dark Knight Rises, I worked with him in my 20s. With Interstellar, I was in my 30s, and now with The Odyssey, I’m in my 40s,” says Hathaway, 44, who plays Penelope, wife of Matt Damon’s Odysseus in Nolan’s epic fantasy.”I feel like I’ve been so influenced by him at every stage. And in this particular moment, since I’m now someone who has a career and a family, and that’s who he’s been the entire time that I’ve known him, I feel like I take even more inspiration from the way he and Emma The Odyssey marks the third time Anne Hathaway has worked with iconic fi lmmakerChris Nolan, and it just keeps getting better and better.IF YOU LIKE THIS, YOU’LL LOVE THESE:Gladiator, Troy, The Death of Robin Hood, Ben-Hurharmonise their ambition and their lives,” she says of the hit filmmaker, who works exclusively with his co-producer wife, Emma Thomas.Pregnant with her third child when STACK talks to her, Hathaway explains how, as a mum, she understood Penelope’s task of ensuring her son Telemachus’ safety during Odysseus’s long absence. An infant when Odysseus left Ithaca for the Trojan War, that son, played by Tom Holland, is all grown up now, but his position as heir to Ithaca is threatened by the suitors vying to marry his mother and steal the throne from him.”We talked a lot about that feeling as a parent: the discomfort that comes when you’re not ready, or you don’t feel your child is ready to have the level of independence that they crave, and how that chafes against the love,” says Hathaway, recalling her conversations with the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer director.”And how the force of love makes it worse, because it creates this conflict, this tension point between you and this person that you love so much, and you want them to be independent, but you also want to keep them safe. And Chris’s children are older than mine, so I trusted his experience as a parent to guide me because, right now, my kids are a lot younger, and we are just in a cuddle fest all the time, so we haven’t hit that point yet,” says the actress who, incredibly, stars in three other films this year: The End of Oak Street, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Verity. The story of The Odyssey has survived for nearly 3,000 years, and for good reason. It is a tale of adventure, courage, temptation, loss, and the powerful pull of home. At its centre is Odysseus, whose journey home after the Trojan War becomes a dangerous odyssey filled with monsters, gods, seductive temptations, and seemingly impossible challenges. But beneath all the spectacle lies something deeply human: a man desperate to return to the wife and son he left behind. For Hathaway’s part, she has been a fan of Greek mythology since her early teens. ”There’s something so powerful about the stories. They’re some of the first ones that our species ever came up with, that have endured as long as they have.”So, there is something in the DNA of them that just makes sense, so I was just interested in them and dancing with them my entire life. But I never thought it would be something that I would be able to bring my passion as an actress to, especially not via the vision of Chris Nolan,” she says.”And this one was so far outside of anything that I ever thought would happen to me that it wasn’t a dream and it wasn’t a wish. • Travis Knight’s new live-action adventure aims to introduce He-Man to a new generation while giving longtime fans familiar characters, mythology, and visual cues to celebrate.Knight himself is a self-professed fan, having been just a boy when Mattel introduced the toys in 1982.“This project really is a dream come true for me because I've known these characters for pretty much my entire life.”At the centre of his re-envisioning of Masters of the Universe is Nicholas Galitzine’s Prince Adam, destined to become He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe. After being separated from his home planet for 15 years, Adam returns to Eternia, where his kingdom has fallen under the control of Jared Leto’s sinister Skeletor. He must reunite with trusted allies to resist the forces threatening his world.Knight drew inspiration from the franchise’s many incarnations, including the original Mattel mini-comics, the legendary 1983-85 Filmation cartoon, the 1987 live-action cult classic starring Dolph Lundgren, and the 2002-2004 animated revival on Cartoon Network.Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation also influenced the film, which even pays homage to the viral mid-2000s video featuring He-Man and friends singing 4 Non Blondes’ 1993 anthem What’s Up?Becoming the most powerful man in the universe required serious preparation. Galitzine, 32, undertook four months of intense weightlifting before filming.“You get into a pretty aggressive cut, doing cardio on top of that,” he explains. “It was definitely a constant challenge. I achieved a series of personal bests, and I don’t know if I'll ever be better.”Idris Elba, who plays Duncan, relished revisiting his childhood obsession with the toys and cartoons while growing up in 1980s London.“Everyone wanted to be He-Man. It's a massive slice of nostalgia and just being a part of it as an actor feels like an honour.” With his own son also a fan, Elba says, “passing that on, and being in a film that he might want to see feels good.” Gill Pringlejbhifi.com.au 10NOVEMBER 2026MOVIEFEATUREvisit jbhifi .com.au/stackWhat would you do if you woke up one morning, looked out your front window, and discovered that your neighbourhood was overrun by dinosaurs? That's the unsettling premise of The End of Oak Street, a sci-fi adventure that takes the familiar comforts of family life and turns them into something prehistoric.Directed by David Robert Mitchell (It Follows), the film stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as Greg and Denise Platt, an ordinary married couple whose lives are turned upside down by an extraordinary cosmic event. Alongside their children, Audrey (Maisy Stella) and Brian (Christian Convery), they must figure out what has happened, and how they're going to survive.“I’d always wanted to make a dinosaur movie since I was a kid. My dad was obsessed with dinosaurs, he dreamed of being a palaeontologist and was always reading dinosaur books,” says Mitchell.Inspiration eventually struck during a casual neighbourhood stroll.“I just imagined that there was a dinosaur there digging through the trash,” he recalls. “And I thought, ‘I want to make a movie that feels like this image in my mind’.”The result is a suburban setting where everyday family frustrations give way to an extraordinary fight for survival. For Hathaway, the premise brought to mind one of her favourite childhood films.“Reading the script, it reminded me of one of my favourite movies from when I was a kid, which I probably shouldn’t have watched when I was a kid, but still, it was great: Poltergeist.”When she connected with Mitchell, the reference confirmed she was in the right place.“He said, ‘That’s what I was going for’. And I just said, ‘Well, I don’t know what’s going to happen next, but please sign me up. I want to be in this world’.”Hathaway was equally enthusiastic about working alongside McGregor, praising his energy and sense of fun, as well as his physical prowess once filming moved into action territory.“He could pick up stunts like that, swing a sledgehammer like it’s a lightsaber,” she says. “A dream co-star, a great laugh.” Gill PringleAfter naively passing on the Star Wars toy licence, Mattel created He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.FUNFACTThe fi lm’s subject matter was kept under wraps throughout production by using the working title Flowerdale.FUNFACTEwan McGregor, Christian Convery,Maisy Stella, and Anne Hathaway For anyone who grew up in the 1980s, Masters of the Universe evokes action fi gures,Saturday morning cartoons, video games, and the unforgettable cry, “By the power of Grayskull!”IF YOU LIKE THIS, YOU’LL LOVE THESE:Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Thor, Mortal KombatIF YOU LIKE THIS, YOU’LL LOVE THESE:Jumanju, Jurassic World, Super 8, Love and Monsters• Masters of the Universeis out Nov 4GENRE: Sci-fi action RUN TIME: 2h 12m• The End of Oak Streetis out Nov 11There goes the neighbourhood, thanks T.rex!GENRE: Sci-fi RUN TIME: 1h 40m

  • Maybe the most shocking thing about Evil Dead Burn is that its young director, Sébastien Vaniček, had no idea an entire trilogy existed before the 2013 reboot.“The first one I saw was Fede Álvarez’s 2013 movie and I was really, really shocked. I remember thinking, ‘What is this?’” admits Vaniček. “Then I dug and discovered it was a remake of the movies from the '80s. I wasn’t a guy who watched movies from the '80s, so that was my first experience.”He subsequently discovered Sam Raimi’s work and felt an immediate connection. “He was 25 years old at the time and he was just really, really angry and just wanted to show things. Playing with an amazing franchise that people love, and I tried to twist some things and be incorrect. I think that’s what fans want. The audience wants to be surprised, more than just being a fun film.”For Vaniček, even the film’s outrageous gore has a purpose. “The script is always layer after layer, and the first layer is always character. It’s about characters and conflict between them. Then you add the layer of supernatural, you shake it up, and that’s when you discover the good bits.”That philosophy extends to the kills. “What would happen that has meaning? Meaning is always the answer. And that’s why the kills in Evil Dead feel cathartic all the time.”Vaniček also looked to the franchise’s past, particularly Evil Dead 2. “That’s the first one that’s really putting rules in place and saying things about a bigger lore and a bigger universe.”The result is a film that acknowledges the franchise’s history while standing on its own. This is very much a hardcore splatter flick, packed with blood, guts, and lots of sprinkles on top.Following the children of a small town who fall under the diabolical spell of a mysterious ice cream man, the film draws on Roth’s love of classic horror and cult cinema.”There’s a lot of things that got in there, starting with The Birds,” he explains. ”But then also The Bad News Bears and Philip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Amazon’s The Rings of Power returns to Middle-earth, exploring Tolkien’s mythology on an equally ambitious television scale. The series emerged from a high-stakes bidding war for the television rights, with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, a self-confessed Tolkien enthusiast, personally involved in negotiations. The result was a planned five-season production that became one of television’s most expensive undertakings.Filmed in New Zealand, the series showcases breathtaking landscapes, elaborate sets, intricate costumes, and cutting-edge visual effects. From the towering halls of Khazad-dûm to the island kingdom of Númenor, it delivers a cinematic experience worthy of Tolkien’s world, complemented by Bear McCreary’s evocative score.Drawing primarily from the appendices of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, the first season unfolds during the Second Age, thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. At its centre is Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), an Elven warrior determined to hunt down Sauron as an ancient evil begins to rise. Meanwhile, the Elves, Dwarves, and people of Númenor face their own challenges, with their stories converging towards the forging of the legendary Rings of Power.Speaking at the series’ world premiere, Bezos recalled falling in love with Tolkien’s universe at 14, drawn to its “themes of hope, optimism, and the idea that everyone has a role to play”. When Amazon secured the project, one of his sons, a devoted Tolkien scholar, offered a simple plea: “Dad, please don’t eff this up!”Director J.A. Bayona, who helmed the first two episodes, believed television was ideal for Tolkien’s expansive mythology, giving the storytelling room to breathe. Acknowledging the challenge of following Jackson’s films, he welcomed the chance to explore previously unseen territory.“I think they did something very smart, which was to portray the Second Age, which is something we haven’t seen before.” Glenn CochraneAmazon’s epic fantasy series The Rings of Power returns to Middle-earth,exploring Tolkien’s Second Age in one of television’s most ambitious productions.RETURN TO MIDDLE-EARTH WITH PETER JACKSON’S THE LORD OF THE RINGS AND THE HOBBIT TRILOGIESXxxxxxxx• The Rings of Power: Seasons 1 & 2is out Nov 18Fun fact: The series is expected to run for fi ve seasons.GENRE: Fantasy RUN TIME: Series

  • Something moving near the front gate? The Anker eufy TrackLight Cam S1 doesn’t just watch, it reacts. It can follow someone with a beam of light and sound an alarm to make unexpected visitors think twice.Words Scott HockingWhat makes the TrackLight Cam S1 different? Most security cameras record the action. This one can shine a spotlight on it – literally! Its Auto-Tracking Light directs a focused beam towards a detected person and follows them as they move, helping to keep them visible after dark.If a warning is needed, a 105dB siren can blare. You can also choose fl ashing red-and-blue warning lights instead of the tracking beam. It’s a more active approach to home security than simply reviewing footage after something happens. How does it know when to react?Dual radar monitors a wide 180-degree area, detecting activity up to around 12 metres away. You can set up to three detection zones to focus on the driveway, gate, or path, rather than the street beyond.Combined with custom detection zones, dual radar helps reduce false alerts compared with basic motion sensors. That means fewer notifi cations from passing traffi c or swaying trees, and more attention on the activity that matters. Can it follow someone around the yard?Yes. The 4K camera pans and tilts to provide 360-degree coverage, tracking movement instead of staying fi xed on one spot. AI helps distinguish between people, pets, and vehicles, while up to 10× digital zoom lets you inspect details more closely. The 4K telephoto lens and enhanced colour night vision work with TrackLight to help capture colour and detail after dark, including when the focused light illuminates an area. Actual visibility depends on conditions and distance. Can it tell when I’m coming home? Not every visitor needs the full security treatment. Smart Welcome Lighting can recognise family members through their phones and switch on softer lighting when they arrive home. A warm welcome for the household, rather than the full spotlight-and-siren routine. Can it join an existing eufy setup?Yes. It works with compatible HomeBase 3 (S380), HomeBase Mini, HomeBase Professional S1, Anker eufy NVR S4, and Smart Display E10 devices, all sold separately. That gives you room to build a more connected security system as your needs grow. OWN YOUR YARDjbhifi.com.au 20NOVEMBER 2026TECHFEATURE visit jbhifi .com.au/stackNo convenient outdoor power point? • Keeping an eye on the driveway while someone heads around the corner? The Reolink OMVI 2i Ultra combines two camera views, clever tracking, and solar charging to help you see more of what’s happening outside.Words Bec SummerWhat makes the OMVI 2i Ultra different? One camera, two sets of eyes. An upper 4K (8MP) wide-angle lens watches the bigger picture, with a 130-degree diagonal view. Below it, a 3K (5MP) telephoto camera can pan, tilt, and zoom in on activity. Think of them as a lookout and a spotter working together: one keeps watch over the scene while the other checks what’s caught your attention. The upper camera can also be manually adjusted during setup, helping you frame the main area you want covered. That means you’re not relying on the moving lens to watch every corner at once. How does its smart tracking work?Spot something moving? Reolink’s SyncTrack links both views. When the upper camera detects a person, vehicle, or animal, the lower camera can automatically lock on and follow, even when the subject leaves the fi xed camera’s view. With 355-degree panning and 50-degree tilt, it can keep up across a wide area.Auto-framing and zoom adjust the shot as the subject moves. Prefer to investigate something yourself? Tap a spot in the wide-angle view to send the movable camera straight there. No need to stand outside and reposition the whole unit. It’s particularly useful if an alert points to something outside the usual tracking path. Can I install it without running cables?Yes. Wi-Fi 6 and rechargeable battery power mean no network cable or permanent power connection. That’s handy for a side gate, driveway, or backyard corner where power points are thin on the ground. The integrated 6W Reolink SolarEase panel helps top up the battery using sunlight, so you spend less time taking it down to recharge. How long does the battery last? The removable 10,000mAh battery offers up to six months per charge, based on fi ve minutes of recording a day and all-day standby. According to Reolink, SolarEase technology delivers a 26% improvement in charging effi ciency, while 30 minutes of daily sunlight can help sustain operation in suitable conditions. As always, sunlight, recording activity, and settings will affect real-world results. What else can it do?A built-in spotlight and night vision help when daylight disappears, while two-way talk lets you speak through the camera. Activity notifi cations help you stay informed, and Google Home compatibility gives you another way to fi t it into a connected home. The OMVI 2i Ultra is more than a camera that swivels: it’s designed to make a single mounting spot work harder. • Budget ultraportable laptops are on the rise, and Dell has joined the fray with its impressive little XPS 13, running Windows 11 Home. We took the 8GB model for a spin, and here are our thoughts.Words Amy FlowerDesign and buildThe XPS 13 immediately looks premium, in keeping with the series’ roots. Its slim 12.7mm aluminium chassis punches above its weight, with none of the budget plastic you might expect at this price. At just 1kg, it well and truly ticks the ultraportable box, while still feeling sturdy enough to handle life on the move.DisplayThe 13.4-inch IPS touchscreen has slim bezels all around, so most of the machine’s compact footprint is taken up by screen.A 2560×1600 (2.5K) resolution, ~500-nit brightness, vivid colour, and dynamic refresh rate up to 120Hz make it one smooth little visual performer.Touch functionality is a welcome bonus for a budget-conscious laptop and works fl awlessly, although it’s worth keeping a cleaning cloth handy because the shiny screen retains fi ngerprints.PerformanceAt its heart is Intel’s Core 5 320 Wildcat Lake processor, designed for entry-level, low-powered systems and well suited to students and everyday users.Email, web browsing, Microsoft 365, and video playback are handled without raising a sweat. Our 8GB review unit can slow down with lots of browser tabs or several programs open at once. If heavier multitasking is a priority, the available 16GB model offers noticeably more breathing room.Integrated Intel Graphics handle everyday visuals, but AAA gaming and demanding creative work such as Photoshop or Premiere call for something more powerful. The 512GB SSD should be enough for most users, and we found the XPS 13 a nimble performer.Battery lifeYou want an ultraportable to have enough juice to see you through a busy day, and the XPS 13 really delivers. Dell claims up to 17 hours of life from a full charge, and it’s believable, bearing in mind that it also depends upon what you’re doing, how bright you have the screen, and other variables.ConnectivityWi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 keep wireless connectivity up to date. We were online in seconds, and pairing a Bluetooth mouse was equally speedy. The compact design does limit ports: you get just two USB-C connections. That should suffi ce on the move, but a hub will be useful at home for a monitor, card reader, and other accessories. There’s also no headphone socket, making Bluetooth headphones the obvious option.AudioThe built-in quad-driver speakers are surprisingly good for a budget ultraportable, delivering more punch than you might expect from such a compact machine, and working well for movies on the go.WebcamThe Full-HD webcam delivers smooth video for Zoom calls and supports Windows Hello, but there’s no physical privacy shutter. The bottom lineFor a Windows ultraportable, the XPS 13 is a very appealing option. It looks and feels premium, has an impressive screen, travels easily, and offers enough battery life to see most users through a busy day. • For years, investing in a gaming laptop meant that you also needed a dedicated graphics card. These chunky, power-hungry components were pretty much essential for running anything more demanding than Solitaire. But the landscape is shifting…Words Bec SummerRecently we’ve seen big leaps in the capability of onboard graphics – particularly from Intel’s latest high-end CPUs - and the idea of what defi nes a gaming laptop is changing. Can onboard graphics run the big games?Modern Intel processors now come with integrated graphics that can run many popular games smoothly at 1080p. Titles such as Fortnite, Minecraft, Rocket League, and Valorantdon’t require the massive oomph of a dedicated GPU, and they’re exactly the kinds of games that most people are actually playing. For casual and mid-range gaming, the CPU alone can now do the heavy lifting. This matters, because dedicated graphics cards add cost, weight, heat, and complexity to a laptop, when most people today demand smaller, lighter, but more powerful. How does a GPU affect battery life?A laptop with a standalone GPU often needs beefi er cooling, a larger chassis, and a bigger battery, yet they still end up delivering shorter battery life. In contrast, a laptop powered solely by a strong Intel CPU with integrated graphics can be slimmer, quieter, and signifi cantly more affordable.Battery life is one of the biggest wins. Dedicated GPUs draw lots of power, even when you’re not gaming. Turn them off, and suddenly your laptop can last up to twice as long on a charge. For anyone who uses their laptop for work, study, or travel as well as gaming, that’s a major advantage, as you’re not lugging around a machine that conks out after a couple of hours of web browsing. What other advantages does an integrated GPU provide?Without a dedicated GPU, there’s less that can go wrong – fewer drivers to update, fewer compatibility quirks, and less heat to manage. Your laptop stays cooler on your lap and quieter on your desk. Because the graphics are built right into the CPU, they automatically get better every time Intel improves its chips. So, integrated graphics keep getting faster and more effi cient with each new generation. So, are dedicated GPUs a thing of the past? Not at all! The rise in power of integrated GPUs doesn’t mean that dedicated graphics cards are obsolete. If you want to play the latest AAA titles at peak settings, or if you’re into VR or power-hungry creative pursuits like 3D rendering, a GPU still makes sense. But for many everyday gamers, the “must-have a GPU” rule is quickly becoming a thing of the past.Ultimately, gaming laptops are becoming more effi cient and more affordable. And, thanks to the advances in powerful onboard graphics, you may not need an expensive graphics card after all. • Imagine turning an idea into something you can actually hold. From handy household fi xes to one-of-a-kind creations, 3D printing makes it possible. And getting started is easier than you might think. Here’s everything you need to know.Words Scott HockingWhat is a 3D printer and how does it work?Imagine a hot-glue gun following a digital blueprint – only with much better aim. A fi lament 3D printer feeds plastic through a heated nozzle, laying it down in thin lines. Layer by layer, a physical object takes shape. This method is called FDM or FFF. Choose a digital model, prepare it with software called a slicer, then send the instructions to your printer. No factory required. Are 3D printers easy to set up and use?Forget the complicated machines of yesteryear. Today's 3D printers do much of the hard work for you. Many printers arrive mostly assembled, with guided setup, automatic calibration, and apps that help you choose a 3D model and hit Print. Start with something small and simple, such as a bag clip or cable tidy, and you’ll soon get the idea. There’s still some trial and error. A dirty build plate or incorrect fi lament settings can lead to the occasional failed print, but that’s all part of the learning curve. And you don’t need coding skills or 3D design experience to get started.Which type of 3D printer should I buy? Before you start dreaming up your fi rst masterpiece, think about what you want to print jbhifi.com.au 40NOVEMBER 2026TECHFEATURE visit jbhifi .com.au/stack3D PRINTERSYOUR QUESTIONS ANSWEREDOPEN-FRAME:Best for PLA beginners who want easy access and a lower starting price.ENCLOSED:Best for more demanding materials and projects that benefi t from stable printing temperatures. • – and where you're going to put the printer. Open-frame machines expose the printing area, so they’re easy to watch and access. Enclosed printers surround it with a cabinet, helping maintain more stable temperatures for demanding materials. Neither type removes the need for ventilation.Compare build volume (maximum print size), calibration, noise, speed, and colour options. Bambu Lab offers open-frame and enclosed models; Creality also makes both. Snapmaker U1 uses four swappable toolheads for multicolour and multi-material projects. Check each model’s included features. Can every 3D printer print in colour?Every filament printer can print with coloured plastic, but not every model can automatically switch colours within one job. On a basic machine, you can print a single colour or pause and change spools by hand.Automatic multicolour printing needs compatible hardware, such as Bambu Lab’s AMS or AMS lite. A ‘Combo’ may include it; otherwise, it can be an extra purchase. Switching colours through a single nozzle can add printing time and waste filament. Printers with separate toolheads, such as the Snapmaker U1, can reduce both. What kind of filament do I need?Filament is plastic “ink” and generally available in 1kg spools at JB. Most consumer printers use 1.75mm filament. Check material, diameter, and spool compatibility. Many printers accept third-party filament, although some automatic feeding systems can have restrictions. Filament is often not included with the printer, so factor that into your budget. On compatible systems, RFID chips on some spools identify the filament and can automatically suggest or apply preset settings. Matching brands may simplify setup, but RFID isn’t universal and settings may still need adjusting.New to printing? PLA is your best friend. It's easy to work with and ideal for getting those first creations off the drawing board. PETG is tougher and more moisture-resistant; many open-frame printers can use it. ASA resists UV and heat but generally needs an enclosure and effective ventilation.Keep spools dry and follow manufacturer material advice. What can I print, and how long will it take?Phone stands, shoes, figurines, costume props, replacement parts, planters, personalised gifts… the list goes on and can get wonderfully weird. A simple little part might take half an hour, a detailed figurine several hours, and a big costume prop overnight or longer.Size, detail, layer height, supports, and colour changes affect timing. Your slicer estimates print time and filament use, helping you calculate material cost. Some prints need supports removed afterwards.Avoid safety-critical and food-contact parts unless materials and designs are properly assessed.Where do I find things to print? You don’t need to design a thing, or even own a computer. With a compatible printer and app, you can even send ready-to-print projects straight from your phone. For more control, a computer and slicing software give you extra options. From practical household fixes to things that you never knew you needed, sites such as MakerWorld, Printables, and Thingiverse are packed with downloadable designs, many completely free. Check the license before selling prints. An STL file contains the shape of an object, not the final machine instructions. Opening it in a slicer on a laptop or desktop gives you more freedom to resize, rotate, and adjust supports and settings than a quick phone-app print. Feeling creative? You can learn to model your own designs later.Where should I put a 3D printer?Your 3D printer doesn't need its own workshop, but it does need a good home. Choose a sturdy, level surface with plenty of room around it, away from curious little fingers, pets, and draughts. Printing releases particles and sometimes fumes, so provide suitable ventilation, particularly with ASA. Keep fingers clear of hot nozzles and moving parts. Routine care includes cleaning the build plate and occasionally checking the nozzle; follow the maker’s advice on maintenance, supervision, and safe operation. jbhifi.com.au 42NOVEMBER 2026TECH FEATURE visit jbhifi.com.au/stackAMS (Automatic Material System): Bambu Lab’s spool-feeding and switching system – compatibility varies by printer.ASA: UV- and heat-resistant filament that typically requires an enclosure and ventilation.Basic vs matte: Standard sheen versus a softer, less shiny filament finish.Bed levelling: Calibration that helps the first layer stick evenly.Build plate: Surface that prints stick to.Build volume: Maximum printable dimensions.Extruder: Mechanism feeding filament towards the nozzle.FDM/FFF: Building objects in layers of melted filament.Filament: Plastic printing strand, commonly 1.75mm diameter.G-code: Printer movement and temperature instructions.Layer height: Layer thickness – thinner can mean finer detail and longer prints.Nozzle: Heated tip depositing plastic.PETG: Tough, moisture-resistant filament.PLA: Easy-to-print filament for everyday projects.Print profile: Preset printing and material settings.RFID tagging: Spool chip read by compatible systems to identify filament.Slicer: Software converting models into print instructions.STL: File format describing a 3D model’s shape.Supports: Temporary structures beneath overhangs.Toolhead: Printing assembly – some printers swap between several.GLOSSARY3Dprinting decoded3D PRINTERSYOUR QUESTIONS ANSWEREDcontinued

The main nozzle’s 256 × 256 × 260mm build volume gives you plenty of room to experiment.A watchful eye on long printsCameras and sensors can detect problems such as fi lament tangles or a failed print piling up plastic. The included AMS 2 Pro adds automatic fi lament switching and fi lament-drying capability.A three-stage fi ltration system can help reduce airborne particles and odours, although suitable room ventilation is still important. Best for: Experienced makers who want cleaner complex prints, engineering materials, and multicolour capability.Snapmaker U1 3D Printer The colour-change shortcut Most automatic multicolour printers push different fi laments through the same nozzle. The U1 has four separate toolheads (the assemblies that feed and melt fi lament) and swaps between them in around fi ve seconds. That can dramatically cut the waiting around on intricate multicolour jobs. Think colourful fi gurines with lots of small details, not just a simple two-tone sign.More printing, less purgingWith a shared nozzle, the printer often has to fl ush out the previous colour before starting the next. Separate toolheads reduce that waste considerably, although not to zero. Snapmaker claims up to 80% less fi lament waste in selected comparisons; your savings will depend on the design. You can also combine compatible rigid and fl exible fi laments in one print or use a separate toolhead for support material on fi ddly shapes.Built for big ideasA 270 × 270 × 270mm build volume means room for bigger props or several smaller pieces at once. Automatic calibration and camera monitoring help with longer jobs. The U1 isn’t fully enclosed as standard; Snapmaker recommends an optional top cover for materials such as ASA. JB’s package includes four 500g PLA spools to get your multicolour experiments underway. Best for: Makers who regularly print colourful, complex, or mixed-material projects and want less time and fi lament lost to switching.3DPRINTERSFIND YOUR PERFECT FITcontinuedConventional automatic multicolour systems usually feed several spools through one nozzle, fl ushing out the old colour between changes. The Snapmaker U1 swaps among four complete toolheads instead, saving time and greatly reducing purge waste – although not eliminating it. Bambu’s X2D takes another route with two switchable nozzles, useful for combining compatible materials and supports. One nozzleor a toolheadchanger?

Withings’ BodyFit and BodyScan 2 smart scales look beyond weight to offer a more detailed picture of body composition.Words Bec SummerSmart scales, smarter insightsjbhifi.com.au 54NOVEMBER 2026TECHFEATURE visit jbhifi .com.au/stackWithings BodyFit Smart Scale Best for: A closer look at body composition without the flagship extrasWant to know more than what the bathroom scales say? The BodyFit’s retractable handle works with electrodes underfoot to measure fat and muscle distribution across six zones – your arms, legs and torso. Instead of one overall fi gure, you can see where changes are happening over time.It also tracks weight to 50g precision, along with fat, muscle and bone mass, hydration, visceral fat, BMI, and basal metabolic rate. Key readings appear on the colour display, with longer-term trends accessible in the Withings app.Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity keep everything synced, while automatic recognition for up to eight users makes it practical for a household. A rechargeable battery rated for up to a year means one less device that needs frequent charging.Withings BodyScan 2 Smart Scale Best for: Those who want the top-of-the-range Withings smart scale experienceThe BodyScan 2 builds on the BodyFit’s detailed body-composition tracking with a more premium design and an expanded suite of features. Most notably, its retractable handle has its own high-resolution colour display, so you can see more information without looking down at the scale. This scale offers six-zone fat and muscle analysis and the same core tracking measures, with results feeding into the Withings app. That makes it easy to keep an eye on changes rather than fi xating on any single weigh-in.Like BodyFit, it also offers automatic user recognition and a rechargeable battery rated for up to a year. Its larger glass platform and premium aluminium construction add to the fl agship feel, while interactive controls and guided scans make the experience more intuitive. There's more to BodyScan 2 than body composition, too. Its expanded range of health and wellness insights makes it Withings' most comprehensive smart scale, although some features may be subject to regional availability or regulatory requirements. What’s new in the Withings scale range? The biggest shift is from whole-body estimates to a more detailed breakdown. The Withings Body Smart and Body Comp scales report overall body composition; BodyFit and BodyScan 2 use their handles to measure fat and muscle distribution across six zones.Compared with the original Body Scan, BodyScan 2 introduces an upgraded measurement system, a display built into the handle, and an expanded range of health and wellness insights. The point isn’t simply more numbers – it’s a clearer view of where changes are occurring.Which Withings smart scale is right for you?Choose the BodyFit if… you want six-zone body-composition tracking and everyday app-based progress monitoring, without paying for fl agship extras.Choose the BodyScan 2 if…you prefer the premium experience, especially the handle-mounted display and additional health insights.Either way… both are designed to help you follow trends over time, not judge progress by a single number on the scale. Core measurements are available in the free Withings app, with additional personalised insights available through an optional Withings+ subscription. It absolutely blew my mind and still does. I was about nine and I had got some money for a birthday or Christmas, can’t quite remember, and I went to Puckle Street, Moonee Ponds and there it was. I just loved all things Jimi and all things guitar. This album opened up the world to me. Although Jimi and that concert was way before my time, I always feel transported to that moment whenever I put it on. I feel like I can really see it and strangely felt seen by it. I’ve always felt grateful for Jimi and his work. Just so raw and so refi ned, so powerful and so delicate all at once. It would be remiss of me to not mention Mitch Mitchell, the greatest drummer of all time in my opinion. He and Jimi and Noel Redding made some incredible work together, though Noel was not on bass at Woodstock. Billy Cox played bass that day and he is also absolutely incredible. So, Jimi and particularly this live album really expanded and delivered my world.DAN SULTAN#1MY FIRSTALBUMLittle Miraclesby Dan Sultan is out now via MushroomIn the hotseat this month is ELLA HOOPERwho has just released her third solo album.Five words to describe yourself:Optimistic, poetic, contrary, driven, dreamer.Your all-time favourite album? No, that’s not a typo. “Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be perfecth,” band leader Josh Homme explains.“And that title is funny when you’re in a group, but it ain’t so funny when you’re alone.”The album’s first single, Easy Street, fits into the “perfecth” theme. “It’s not just about silliness,” Josh says. “It’s about understanding the imperfection of your life. The song, like your life, is in the mistakes. Its imperfections are unbeatable.“Every song sounds like it’s from a different world,” Josh adds. “And that’s on purpose, because it’s trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.”Thirteen years after Grand Theft Auto V, the new instalment in the video game series comes with a killer soundtrack. We’re talking 34 songs in a genre-busting blockbuster collection, featuring rock, rap, country, and electropop.Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards? Of course, there have been many changes along the way, but The Church – Kilbey, Tim Powles, Ian Haug, Ashley Naylor, and Jeffrey Cain - remain one of our most compelling and captivating groups. Kilbey calls the new record “intense, forlorn, and exultant”. And it’s also epic, with 17 tracks, all of which are three minutes or more. Recorded in Austin, Texas, it swings from psychedelic dreampop to twisted Americana. It’s quite the trip. This is the band’s fourth offi cial live album, following 2017’s Rammstein: Paris. Recorded over three nights in October 2022, it captures the band playing for nearly 200,000 fans. There is also a concert fi lm.U2 Carnaval de Luz ISLAND UKAny U2 album is an event. The band’s sweet 16th studio album is their fi rst featuring new material since 2017’s Songs of Experience. And the album comes 50 years after the four members fi rst played together. The fi nal track, Torn, stands as a poignant tribute to Dolly Parton – it was the American superstar’s fi nal recording before her passing in August. • 65PREVIEWSMUSICSinger Eva Cassidy’s ongoing success isunprecedented in the history of the recording of popular music.Eva died on November 2, 1996 at the age of 33. During her lifetime she released only two albums on small labels. Her success can be traced back to a recording session at producer/engineer Chris Biondo’ssmall studio in Washington DC. A local band asked if a school friend could come by to add some backing vocals, but when they returned the following week, she wasn’t with them.“Where’s the girl?” Chris asked.“She’s very shy, she’s scared to come in.”Made to feel welcome, Eva did enter the studio, and both their lives were changed.“When she started to sing, I knew she was special,” Chris says. “I invited her to come by whenever she wanted to record whatevershe wanted.”So, until her death, Chris welcomed Eva at least once a week. Two years after her passing, Eva’s recording of Over the Rainbow was played on BBC Radio 2, resulting in an avalanche of listener requests. Soon after, a video recording of Eva performing the song was played on Top of the Pops 2 and a legend was born.Since then, nine posthumous albums have been released. Number ten, Jazzed, has employed a new audio-restoration process that separates Eva’s original vocals fromtheir accompaniment and places them within arrangements that can now be heard in a new orchestral context. This collection celebrates the jazz side of Eva Cassidy with songs including Summertime, Cheek to Cheek, Blues in the Night, Honeysuckle Rose, and It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing).Radio legend Billy Pinnell presents Billy Pinnell’s Musical Moments on YouTube.T’S OUT THIS MONTH?EVA CASSIDYJazzedBLIX STREETBILY’S PICKVARIOUS ARTISTS20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan RUBYWORKSWe lost Shane MacGowan three years ago when The Pogues singer died at the age of 65. • It’s one of the most infl uential video games ever made, and this month sees a modernised take on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time releasing for Switch 2. We take a quick look at the signifi cance of the title, and what to expect from this much-anticipated update. Words Amy FlowerA brief history of Time…Originally released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 console, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timewas a true innovator. It oozed fresh thinking, introducing such systems as controls that did different things depending upon your situation, and lock-on targeting. It also gave players a detailed world that felt alive in ways that we’d not previously experienced, all wrapped up with truly cinematic storytelling. But that wasn’t all. Its time-shifting structure, memorable characters, and iconic soundtrack all added to making Ocarina of Time a defi ning moment in gaming history, setting a template that infl uenced how 3D action games worked from then on.Enduring influenceAs one of the earliest fully 3D open-world adventures, with its thoughtful design Ocarina of Time managed to make dense environments approachable. Its Z-targeting system became a genre standard, while the combination of puzzle-solving, exploration, and challenging combat would infl uence numerous successors - Dark Souls and The Witcher being two signifi cant examples. The lure of Ocarina of Time wasn’t just in its mechanics though. Players connected with the emotional depth of Link’s journey from childhood to adulthood, and the game’s haunting atmosphere. Adding to this, the musical storytelling through the titular ocarina further enhanced the game’s emotional impact. Now, 28 years on, Ocarina of Time is still widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made, both for its technical achievements and its narrative scope. It’s been rebuilt from the ground up, with an eye to preserving the spirit of the original while updating nearly everything within the game. Visuals: The textures, lighting, and character models have all been completely rebuilt to give Hyrule a modern look, while retaining the game’s familiar aesthetics. There are now real-time shadows, realistic water effects, and much more, all targeting 1080p at 60 frames per second.Audio:If you thought that the original musical compositions were stunning, just wait until you hear the fully reorchestrated symphonic soundtrack recorded for this update, upping the cinematic majesty immeasurably. It isn’t just the big sonic stuff that’s been seen to, either, with environmental audio such as wind, water, and even village chatter being refreshed. Dialogue:Save for the ever-silent Link, all the game’s major characters now have voiced cutscenes, to add even more emotional depth to the story. Controls:This one’s huge – there’s now a dedicated jump button! Add free camera control and Ocarina of Time now plays like other modern action adventures. But the enhancements don’t end there. There’s also the option of using motion aiming thanks to the abilities of the Joy-Con 2 controller, and an updated UI more akin to Breath of the Wild andTears of the Kingdom.Performance: We all hate load times, and to this end the game has been tweaked to make traversing the world feel seamless. Expansion:Remember peering into the distance of Hyrule Castle Town and wondering what lay beyond? It has now been expanded, allowing a greater area to be explored.Updated designs:Items such as the three Spiritual Stones and the Ocarina of Time itself feature enhanced detail, including a Triforce symbol etched near the ocarina’s mouthpiece. Help:A “Trails of Time” guidance system offers optional navigation assistance, while the Zelda Notes companion app brings such goodies as quizzes, ocarina tools, and in-game progress records.ONWARDS TO SWITCH 2FORMAT: GENRE: Action adventure MULTIPLAYER: No• The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeis out Nov 55FEATUREGAMING

  • Those delightful little Pikmin are back this month, making their way onto the Nintendo Switch 2 in an enhanced take on Pikmin 4, complete with an exclusive new challenge mode. In celebration, let’s take a trip into all things Pikmin… Words Amy FlowerPikmin(2001) Our introduction to the wonderful world of Pikmin came on the Nintendo GameCube, bringing into our lives Captain Olimar and the real-time strategy/puzzle mixture that went on to defi ne the series. After crashlanding on an Earth-like planet which we later discovered is named PNF-404, Olimar had 30 in-game days to recover his ship parts before his life-support fails. Players commanded Pikmin – little plant-animal hybrids grown from seeds - to battle hostile fauna, carry objects, and navigate environmental hazards. This original game established the day–night cycle, colour-coded Pikmin abilities (such as red resisting fi re, and blue swimming), and a focus on effi cient task management, which was dubbed Dandori later in the series. DYK? The planet designation PNF-404 is a riff on the internet HTTP 404 Page Not Found error, substituting ‘Planet’ for ‘Page’.Pikmin 2 (2004) Three years on, the GameCube brought us our next instalment, with Pikmin 2 expanding the formula quite signifi cantly. Olimar returned to PNF-404 with his co-worker Louie, out to collect valuable treasures and to repay their employer’s massive debt. This sequel saw the strict 30-day limit abandoned, allowing more open exploration. It also introduced two-leader control, deeper cave systems, and a wider variety of Pikmin types, including hefty purple and versatile white. DYK? Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has said that the idea for Pikminsprung from watching ants working together in his garden.Pikmin 3(2013) After a nine-year break, Pikmin 3 arrived on the Wii U in 2013, with focus shifting to a trio of new protagonists in Alph, Brittany, and Charlie, who hailed from the planet Koppai. Facing a food shortage at home, they travelled to PNF-404 to gather fruit and seeds.New tactical layers were added to the game with the introduction of Rock Pikmin and Winged Pikmin, while the missions highlighted resource scarcity and keeping your trio of leaders coordinated. In 2020, the game came to Nintendo Switch as Pikmin 3 Deluxe, adding quality-of-life improvements, extra missions, and co-op options.DYK? 2017’s Hey! Pikmin on the Nintendo 3DS was the series’ fi rst handheld game. It was a side-scrolling puzzle-platformer. Pikmin 4(2023) Released for Nintendo Switch in 2023, Pikmin 4modernised the series while remaining faithful to its roots.Players controlled a customisable member of the Rescue Corps, tasked with recovering castaways and ultimately locating the missing Captain Olimar. It also introduced Oatchi, a super-cute space dog companion who could fi ght, carry items, and ferry Pikmin about, signifi cantly altering the way that movement and combat worked. New mechanics included night expeditions, which weren’t possible in previous series entries, and expanded Dandori Challenges that emphasised effi cient multitasking. Controls were also refi ned, new Pikmin types – Ice and Glow - were added, and the game was gentler on those who were new to the series’ unique spin on the strategy genre.Dandori Academy(2026)As Pikmin 4 gets a juicy coat of Switch 2 polish – improved visuals, the ability to issue voice commands to faithful Oatchi, and GameShare compatibility both locally and online - it also brings us a whole new mode.Dandori Academy is a series of exams – fun ones - that involve using your Pikmin to collect as much treasure as possible within a time limit. While you can pick the stages that you want to play in, you can only take the fi nal exam once, so practice and more practice will be the key to scoring the shiniest medals! jbhifi.com.au 6NOVEMBER 2026GAMINGFEATUREvisit jbhifi .com.au/stackLEAF IT TO THE EXPERTS!IF YOU LIKE THIS, YOU’LL LOVE THESE:Once Upon a Katamari, Empire of the Ants, Slime Rancher 2• Pikmin 4 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academyis out Nov 12FORMAT: GENRE: Strategy/Puzzle MULTIPLAYER: Yes

  • Possibly the most anticipated video game ever is fi nally with us this month, as Grand Theft Auto VI takes us back to Vice City – and beyond. Let’s take a quick dive into some of what to expect from the juggernaut game. Words Amy FlowerWhere are we going?GTA VI will take place in Rockstar’s Florida-inspired state Leonida, including a reimagined Vice City. It’s all set in the present day.The world is substantially larger than that of GTA V, spanning urban districts, neon-drenched beachfronts, rural backroads, industrial zones, and vast natural environments. Beyond Vice City, confi rmed regions include the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Port Gellhorn, and Mount Kalaga National Park. Based on screenshots released by Rockstar, estimates have the map to be roughly twice the size of Los Santos, with hundreds of interiors ranging from nightclubs and motels to supermarkets and public transport stations able to be explored. Unlike GTA V, it starts small and expands as story chapters are completed.Much effort has gone into making Leonida a living world, with wildlife such as alligators, sharks, dolphins, fl amingos, foxes, deer, and jaguars, and fully explorable underwater areas containing hidden treasure. Meanwhile, weather is dynamic and can range from the calm of rainbows to the fury of hurricanes.Characters and storyThe game stars dual protagonists in Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, who are basically a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like partnership. Lucia, recently released from prison, seeks a new start, while Jason has both a military and criminal background. The story kicks off when “an easy score goes wrong,” pulling the pair into a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida. You must work on their relationship, too, as the romance level is measured as you go.We’ll encounter several supporting characters, including Vice City businessman Boobie Ike, aspiring muso Dre’Quan Priest, smuggler Brian Heder, and other local criminals.GameplayGTA VI expands player freedom by introducing dual-character play – switching between Lucia and Jason during missions or free roam. Cooperative two-character sections will also feature, such as driving and shooting combinations.Combat and movement have been overhauled, with newly introduced mechanics including prone crawling and zip-tie restraints. The wanted system will now use six tiers, with more aggressive escalation and improved police AI to keep players on their toes.Over 200 vehicle types will be included, all with interactive interiors. Plus, car theft will now require specifi c tools to overcome security, rather than just a simple door yank.NPCs will react dynamically to player behaviour and remember past actions. Plus, character appearance will change based on eating, exercise, and sleep. Look after them!Side activities will include skydiving, wrestling, basketball, mini-golf, gyms, plus street and offroad racing. Social media will also play a role in missions, with infl uencers livestreaming events in real time.SoundtrackRadio is integral to the GTA experience, and in GTA VI we’ll encounter various styles depending upon where we go in-game.Vice City will deliver a mix of classic rock and pop, while travelling wider will uncover assorted genres tied to Florida’s cultural identity, from Latin pop and country to Southern hip-hop, African, and beyond. Plus, talk radio will always an option.Meanwhile, to help make Leonida feel more alive, voice acting and performance capture have been expanded, bringing more natural and emotional dialogue.Technical stuffWorking to the strengths of the latest console hardware, look out for ray-traced lighting, and a higher level of detail across the board than ever before, from vehicle physics to water simulation. It’s all thanks to Rockstar’s latest evolution of their game engine, RAGE 9, which also allows for more fl uid animation, and vastly improved AI for a more realistic game world experience. jbhifi.com.au 8NOVEMBER 2026GAMINGPREVIEWvisit jbhifi .com.au/stackHAVE A VICE DAY!IF YOU LIKE THIS, YOU’LL LOVE THESE:Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Mafi a: The Old CountryFORMAT: GENRE: Action adventure MULTIPLAYER: NoIn-game track Flower in a Hurricane features Aussies Tame Impala and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. • Action blast Stellar Blade hits the Nintendo Switch 2 in a “Complete Edition” this month. We chatted with the game’s director/art director Hyung Tae Kim at Shift Up about how they crafted this action gem. Words Amy FlowerThere’s a rich history of strong female lead characters in video games. How does it feel adding to this impressive list of heroines?Of course, we're very honoured, and while we still need the players’ permission for such a title, we've done our best to develop Eve into a strong and compelling female character. How did you go about developing the story at the heart of Stellar Blade? The story was a collaborative effort between myself and our scenario team. We were heavily infl uenced by the compelling dystopian and post-apocalyptic tropes that existed in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and we tried to put a modern spin on those stories and tropes. However, we tried to make sure that the story itself was compatible with the gameplay, rather than trying to make it look good, so that the story would unfold naturally as you play. Did any existing games serve as inspiration for you in creating Stellar Blade? I'm a heavy console gamer, so there are a lot of games that have inspired me. I'm particularly infl uenced by NieR: Automata, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, God of War, Sekiro, Jedi: FallenOrder... Also, Capcom's P.N.03, which came out during the GameCube era, had a lot of infl uence on the protagonist's movements and physical features. How much fun was it developing the baddies of the piece, the Naytiba?Creating the native creatures was no easy task. I actually even think they're the main characters. We deliberately tried to design them to feel as weird and unpleasant as possible in relation to the scenario, and, in the process, we made three-dimensional models directly out of clay and scanned them, trying to make them feel natural and not patterned. It was a big challenge, and I'm glad it turned out well, although the artists' fi ngers were working quite hard! Some of the amazing music in Stellar Blade was composed by legendary Japanese game and anime composer Keiichi Okabe’s MONACA production team. How did you get them involved?I'm a huge fan of Okabe-san's work. From the Tekken series to the sophisticated and powerful music of Ridge Racer to the emotional impact of the NieR series, I've always loved his work, so I reached out to him directly and was ecstatic to hear that while it's diffi cult to work with him due to scheduling confl icts, he was willing to support me through the excellent people at MONACA.Your studio has evolved from a very successful mobile game background. Were there any challenges that you faced in creating your fi rst console experience? As you might already know, Korea has a lot of talented developers, but very few of them have worked on console games, so we had to build everything from scratch. Mobile requires a completely different approach, so we worked with people who had collaborated on previous MMORPGs, and it felt like we were completing challenges one by one. The most challenging part was developing multiple facial techniques to convey the narrative and high-quality graphics at 60fps.Other than Eve, who is your all-time favourite video game heroine, and why?Oh, this is a very diffi cult question because there are so many... Michelle and Nina from Tekken 2, Tifa from Final Fantasy XII, 2B from NieR: Automata, and so many more for different reasons. • The PlayStation audio lineup expands this month with the arrival of PULSE Elevate, which are wireless desktop speakers designed specifi cally to match PlayStation setups. Let’s check out what they have in store for us… Words Amy FlowerIntroducing…Available in either Midnight Black or the now classic PS5 white, these speakers – the fi rst from Sony Interactive Entertainment - aim to deliver brilliant low-latency sound for PS5, PC, Mac, and PlayStation Portal users. They’re based on the same audio tech that’s found in the PULSE Elite headset and PULSE Explore earbuds, but in a new form that’s designed for those players who prefer open-air sound rather than wearing headphones. Why “Elevate”?You may think that the name is just a marketing thing, but it’s actually a literal description of one of the signature features of these speakers. You have the option of sitting each speaker upright or, alternatively, tilting it backwards to aim the audio more toward the listener, simulating height channels. This adjustable angle can help create more immersive and lifelike spatial sound, especially in PS5 titles that support Tempest 3D AudioTech. Big sound, no subwoofer! Each PULSE Elevate speaker includes its own planar magnetic driver, which is the sort of technology that you’d typically fi nd in high-end audiophile gear. These drivers deliver detailed sound across the full frequency range. Bass lovers can rejoice, too, as the Sony boffi ns have also installed woofers into each speaker, meaning that you don’t need a separate subwoofer to get pleasing bass. Less cables, and more desk space!Portable audio that isn’t just for gamingUnlike traditional desktop speakers, PULSE Elevate units have built-in rechargeable batteries, meaning that you can move them around your gaming setup, or even carry them to another room, and they’ll continue to work a treat for up to 12 hours without charging. A charging pad for each speaker is included in the package. If juice is low, or you have a main home for them, they can also run directly off the charging pads connected to mains power, but the portability means that they can double as Bluetooth speakers for uses beyond gaming, like listening to music.Sony’s PlayStation Link technology provides lossless, ultra-low-latency wireless audio, which ensures that game sound syncs perfectly with the action that’s on your screen. The PULSE Elevate speakers also support simultaneous Bluetooth audio, so you can mix game sound with music or chat from another device such as a TV or smartphone. Cool extrasWant to adjust EQ, volume, mic settings, and orientation? It’s easily done via PS5 menus, with PC support due post launch. As well as the speakers, the PULSE Elevate package also includes the two charging docks, plus a PlayStation Link USB-C adapter for devices that don’t have built-in Link support. Summing upWith PULSE Elevate, there’s a handy new way to deliver PlayStation audio, bringing portability and fl exibility in speakers that combine high-end sound with features aimed squarely at gamers. With the ability to adjust the direction of audio, built-in chat capabilities, plus planar magnetic drivers and woofers inside, they’re a top option for players who crave immersive speaker sound instead of using a headset. jbhifi.com.au 12NOVEMBER 2026GAMINGFEATUREvisit jbhifi .com.au/stackYOURPS5 SOUND!One of the standout features of the PULSE Elevate speakers is an integrated microphone in the right speaker. It uses AI-enhanced noise rejection to fi lter out unwanted background noise, enabling clear multiplayer voice chat without needing a headset or boom mic. If you’re a player who isn’t into wearing headphones during long sessions, this really is a super-convenient feature.• PlayStation 5 PULSE Elevate Wireless Speakersare out Nov 12Headset-free chat!ELEVATE

  • The super-cool Razer | Pokémon collaborations continue this month with the arrival of Razer BlackShark V3 X Hyperspeed Wireless Esports Headsets in stunning Charizard and Lucario designs. Let’s check out the headset, and the two designs… Words Amy FlowerWhat is it?The Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed is an ultra-light, wireless esports headset that’s been designed for competitive play without an eyewatering price tag. It aims to deliver speedy and reliable wireless audio and clear comms, with snug comfort even in marathon gaming sessions.DesignWe’ve mentioned comfort, and weighing in at around 270 grams, the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed feels pleasantly light on your head. The over-ear cups feature memory foam cushions wrapped in leatherette, while an adjustable headband lets you get the headset sitting just how you like it. The closed-back design keeps game audio in and ambient noise out, making it easier to stay in the zone when you’re playing. These special Pokémon editions offer two distinct and stylish options for fans. Team Charizard? Go for its fi ery red, yellow, and black edition. Team Lucario? Then black and blue is the one for you! The soundThe BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed packs in Razer TriForce 50mm Gen-2 drivers, which are tuned for clarity and positional accuracy. This means that the location of things like footsteps and reloads stand out more clearly. There’s also virtual 7.1 surround sound on PC via Razer Synapse, which expands the soundstage and helps with directional awareness. Razer’s boffi ns have focused on delivering detail and separation to the user’s ears rather than thunderous bass, which is just what you want for esports and fast-paced shooters.Be heardHandily, the 9.9mm Razer HyperClear cardioid boom mic is detachable for when you just want to listen. When chat is in order though, its pickup pattern focuses on your voice and reduces background noise, so your voice comes through cleanly and clearly. There’s a mute button with an LED indicator, plus mic monitoring (aka sidetone) that you can adjust using the roller under the right earcup, which is super-handy when you don’t want to shout over your game audio.Other controls on the cups are a volume wheel, power button, multi-function button, and mic mute, all offering quick access without having to dive into software.Getting connectedGetting the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed connected is a breeze. It supports 2.4 GHz Razer HyperSpeed wireless via an included dongle, Bluetooth, and USB. This means that it’ll play nice with PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and mobile. Another handy inclusion is SmartSwitch Dual Wireless, which lets you toggle between HyperSpeed and Bluetooth with a single button press, which is brilliant if you like to bounce between devices. The juice! When you’re playing, you don’t want to have any nagging doubts about whether your headset will go the distance with you. Here, you’re looking at up to 70 hours of battery life, which should be plenty for even the most hardened gamer. The BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed utilises USB-C charging, with quick-charge support that means roughly 15 minutes of charging gives around six hours of play. Who’s it for?If you’re a Pokémon fan on the hunt for a lightweight, wireless esports headset with positional audio, a detachable mic, and multi-platform support – all without making your savings account weep - then these special editions of the Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed hit a very sweet spot. jbhifi.com.au 14NOVEMBER 2026GAMINGFEATUREvisit jbhifi .com.au/stackFIRE VS.
